"His snoring boomed / hiss with memories. / And every hum grew louder / more snoring before." (Rattling pots and pans, lamps aspen), the cacophony of a strange chain of events and people wake up. The appeal with his tale of woe, the mouse receives an invitation to linger, as well as lessons in calm, except during sleep. The story has an inventive step premise, but the verse suffers occasionally from a bad rhythm and rhyme (eg, "the woman, the quiet man of / padded slippers. / You never had any noise / not even while zipping zippers"). consistently entertaining images are whimsically arranged and Waber offer a variety of colors.
